Sporades Islands Sailing Itineraries
From our base on Skiathos Island, you can sail this 24 island archipelago without fear of overcrowding - only four of the islands are permanently inhabited! Enjoy this seclusion on quiet anchorages, cooking your own meals under the stars and falling asleep to the sound of the sea lapping against your hull.
The only 'proper' towns in the Sporades double as ports - Skiathos town, Skopelos town, Patitiri on Alonissos and Linaria on Skyros. Away from these however there are many lovely fishing villages and secluded bays in which to anchor overnight. Our favourites include Glosa on Skopelos Island, which is accessed via Loutraki port, Agnondas -also on Skopelos, Steni Vala on Alonissos and Kastro on Skiathos. For a two week itinerary it is possible to also sail west from Skiathos into the Bay of Volos, which is a large sheltered mainland bay with several villages and the nice Trikeri Island.
This one week itinerary from Skiathos ventures east along this secluded and wonderful Greek archipelago.
Explore the remote Sporades Islands directly from Volos without transfering to Skiathos first.
This fourteen day itinerary in the Sporades Islands includes not only the archipelago itself, but also the Bay of Volos and can be done from Volos or Skiathos, its your choice.
Sporades Islands Weather
The predominant wind in the Sporades is the 'Meltemi, a north/north easterly wind that blows throughout the summer. During peak season the Meltemi blows around the Force 5-6 (fresh-strong winds), though early and later in the season it does die off. Early and late season, May and October, you'll find temperatures in the early to mid-twenties. During peak summer temperatures get up to the mid 30s.
How to get to Skiathos and Volos
Skiathos Island has the only airport in this area and is served by charter flights on Fridays only. Be aware that they do tend to be expensive, sometimes double that to Athens or Corfu. At the time of writing this, Thomson fly to Skiathos from London airports, Manchester, Newcastle and East Midlands.
There are direct flights to Volos with easyJet from London Gatwick on a Saturday, making this the most convenient option for flights to the Sporades Islands area.
