With a long hot summer, the best time to sail in Croatia is June to late-September. August is the peak month, with school holidays in play. June and July are both wonderful months to visit, with the sea temperature gradually rising as the weeks go by. Early July, the very end of August and start of September are favourite times to sail Croatia outside of the school holidays. If you’re looking for a great deal, then May and October are the months for you!

Our bases in Croatia are evenly spread throughout the country, with each sailing region having at least two bases to choose from. Within a sailing area, the individual base you choose to sail from is often not as important as the yacht, so always prioritise the boat before the specific base. That said, it’s important to choose a base that gives you convenient access to the sailing region that you wish to sail.

Seamaster offers financially protected flight packages to Croatia from the UK. Each sailing region has at least one designated airport, though many have two to choose from. When flying from the UK there are numerous airports around the country that fly to Croatia. When flying from further afield, Split Airport is the main international airport serving as a hub, while Dubrovnik is readily accessible, but Zadar and Pula are more niche. Expect hot summer weather from May to September, with the water temperatures warming up through the year. You’ll find that during the peak season of July and August the winds are quite light, though a nice sailing breeze oftens develops in the afternoon. There’s a bit more wind around early and late season, though Croatia is generally a relatively easy sailing destination.

You should expect to pay mooring fees in Croatia. We say to budget €400pw for an average sized yacht on a variety of moorings. These moorings range in type and therefore price, with the commercial marinas being very expensive and good to avoid while there are mooring buoys that you.

To sail in Croatia, you need at least an RYA Day Skipper certificate though we recommend having an ICC certificate (International Certificate of Competence).You must also have a Radio (Short Range) Operators certificate.
