DiscoverGenerally, sailing is a means to an end. That end is being anchored in an idyllic bay or village, swimming, eating local cuisine, reading, sunbathing, snorkeling, relaxing in a hammock, jumping into the sea, going out for dinner, having a sunset cocktail, fishing, heading to a nightclub, dozing in the sun, exploring villages and fortresses... You get the idea!
Parents and children of all ages love our sailing holidays. The experiences are so diverse that each member of the family can shape the experience to suit themselves. Take the wheel and have a go at sailing? No problem. Sit back and relax in the sun with a drink? No problem. Swim, snorkel, relax in the sun, read a book, explore the shore.. There's plenty to keep everyone occupied.
This is not a cruise where you spend all your time cooped up on board your boat. Our sailing holidays enable you to meander from island to island, village to village and activity to activity. You can take day trips, visit isolated restaurants, partake in shore based activities, explore villages and fortresses, discover abandoned submarine caves, people watch from your taverna table, or take your SUP to the beach you anchored off from.
Safety is a primary concern for all our sailing holidays. This begins right at the start of our Seamaster process where we assist you in selecting the most appropriate sailing destination for your experience and the right boat for your personal circumstances. Our yachts have personal safety equipment on board; life jackets (including for kids) are standard, there is safety netting available, life rafts, safety briefings and we also advise on what to take with you.
We are extremely proud of our Seamaster skippers and hosts. They are good people whose primary purpose is to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable holiday that is tailored to your personal preferences. They are well versed in adapting to the unique situation that every charter offers.
The most balanced sailing area in Greece. The Saronic Islands have a perfect mix of lovely sailing winds, quiet bays, lively villages, friendly tavernas and great value. This area, which includes the Argolic and Saronic Gulf, is an interesting, diverse and authentically Greek area for all sailors, including families, older and younger groups and couples. Athens is an interesting launch pad with a wide range of quality boats and catamarans.
Located off the western coast of Greece, the Ionian is a wonderfully gentle sailing area that many sailors, particularly the British, have made their second home for decades now. Stretching from Corfu to Zakynthos, an Ionian Islands yacht charter is characterised by light winds, a green coastline, short sailing legs, small villages, authentic quayside tavernas and a generally relaxed disposition.
Blue domed roofs, sandy beaches and winds with a bite, the Cyclades Islands are stunning. See a postcard of Greece and it will inevitably boast the blue domed roofs of Santorini or the iconic windmills of Mykonos. Gorgeous sandy beaches, wonderful traditional architecture, stunning landscapes & fascinating ancient history litter its many gorgeous & idyllic islands.
The Dodecanese are a diverse group of 12 main islands and numerous small islets, nestled along the Turkish coast in the south-eastern Aegean. Sailing here offers the opportunity to enjoy the liveliness of Kos and Rhodes and then the greater thrill of sailing away to enjoy the peaceful, unspoilt and diverse outer islands. It is with these smaller islands that you’ll fall in love, enjoy their sandy beaches, warm waters, rich history, enchanting character, traditional tavernas, Venetian architecture, Byzantine churches and medieval castles.
The Sporades Islands are located in the Aegean Sea north of Athens. They’re renowned for sandy beaches, lively sailing, secluded bays and as the stunning backdrop to the movie ‘Mamma Mia’. You’ll also find well preserved nature reserves and might even be lucky enough to spot the endangered Mediterranean Monk Seal.
The Dalmatian Islands in Croatia are renowned for their variety and balance. You’ll visit terracotta roofed villages, find hidden restaurants, wander flagstone paved alleys, enjoy cosmopolitan and lively towns, relax in quiet picturesque bays and experience wonderfully balanced sailing conditions. Don’t forget Italian influenced food, crystal clear waters and a wonderful Mediterranean climate.
Rugged, barren and staggeringly beautiful, the Kornati Islands are a collection of hundreds of largely uninhabited islands scattered like pebbles along the northern Dalmatian coast of Croatia. You’ll find stunning isolated bays to enjoy quiet nights at anchor, hidden restaurants serving some of the best food in the Med and a few lively mainland stops to let your hair down!
There are several sailing areas that prove popular time and again with our skippered charter guests due to their wide ranging appeal. All three are easy sailing destinations, with mild wind conditions, flat seas, and short sailing legs. You will enjoy very different experiences, especially culturally though, so be sure to do your homework.
If it’s nightlife you’re after, look no further than the three sailing destinations below. Home to such world famous nightlife spots such as Hvar, Mykonos and Amalfi town respectively, you won’t be short of nightlife pursuits in these wonderful sailing areas. It’s not just nightclubs though, these destinations enjoy an array of high class restaurants too.
A skippered yacht charter is the perfect means to escaping mass tourism and beating your own path. On a yacht you can reach destinations that are otherwise inaccessible to those on land, including secluded bays, uninhabited islands, and small villages away from the hordes. Here are our favourites.
There is a broad range of sailing conditions available throughout the Mediterranean, including benign, balanced, and ‘exciting’ conditions. The areas below represent the more balanced areas where you can hoist the sails and enjoy sea breezes powering your journey. If you’re looking for more exciting sailing, look towards the Cyclades or Dodecanese Islands in Greece.
Families love skippered yacht charters, no matter the age of the kids as there’s always something different to do and experience, even if that’s just relaxing in the sun as someone else does the work! The below destinations are our most popular for families as they offer the key ingredients for a successful family sailing holiday; balanced sailing conditions, short-hop sailing legs, wonderful food, and a vast array of interesting things to do and see.
Throughout the holiday you will need to provide proper food and drink for the skipper. Bear in mind they are working all day and it is all they eat for half the year, so healthy sustenance is important. Generally, breakfast and lunch are straightforward as you will usually be eating on the yacht and the skipper and join in with you for those meals.
For dinner, typically you have two options. The first is that you take the skipper out to dinner with you and essentially treat them as an extended family member. Alternatively, you can give your skipper an allowance and they will go and sort themselves out and return with a receipt and any change. You can of course mix and match as you wish.
Your skipper requires their own cabin. So, you will need to ensure you have sufficient cabins to accommodate your party as well as the skipper. For example, if you are a group of six, you will need three cabins for your party and one for the skipper meaning you need a minimum of a four cabin yacht. You will also need to ensure the skipper has access to a bathroom too, this can either be shared or allocated to just the skipper as per your preference.
Larger yachts sometimes come with a dedicated skipper’s cabin. In most circumstances the skipper can sleep in these, but some are too small so please discuss the cabin arrangements with us during booking and we can guide you accordingly.
Most of our skippers are nationals of the country you are visiting, but we do also have British and Australian skippers working for us too. Many have grown up sailing these areas and enjoy nothing more than showing you all the secret spots and sharing hidden tips only the locals know. It is important to remember that your skipper is not only there to sail the yacht but also to act as a tour guide for the holiday.
All our skippers speak English fluently and as many are locals you benefit from their ability to communicate in the native language.
None of our holidays follow fixed routes. We recommend you sit down with your skipper on arrival, open a cold beverage and discuss the holiday with them. Take this time to mention anywhere you have seen, read or heard about and the skipper will do their best to accommodate your wishes depending on the forecasted conditions and what is reasonably possible.
Our skippers know these areas like the back of their hands and are more than happy to build a route they think will fit your preferences. If you are looking for lively towns or quieter anchorages our skippers will do their best to make this an unforgettable experience.
Many people want to come away with some practical knowledge of sailing after their holiday. Our skippers are only too happy to teach you as much as you would like to know throughout the holiday. They are not able to issue any formal qualifications after your holiday, but you could use the time to brush up on any skills you want to perfect before going on to do your own sailing qualification.
How much you get involved is completely up to you. If you want to sit back, relax and only throw the odd line that is absolutely fine. If you want to do most of the sailing and just have the skipper to lean on for any advice during the holiday or to take over if things get a little tricky then that is okay too. Ultimately this is your holiday and you can do as much or as little as you wish.
